IMPORTED DIMENSIONED TIMBER
POLICY
This document sets out the Policy of the CFMEU FORESTRY
AND FURNISHING PRODUCTS DIVISION on Imported Dimensioned
Timber for the information of all Members, Representatives
and Officials.
Included in the Policy is an
introduction, which provides a background for the
reading and application of the Policy.
This Policy is binding on all CFMEU FORESTRY AND FURNISHING
PRODUCTS DIVISION Members, representatives and Officials.
Any queries about the Policy should be
directed to either the Branch or the National Divisional
Office.
The CFMEU FORESTRY AND FURNISHING PRODUCTS DIVISION expresses
its total opposition to the import of Dimensioned Timber.
Enterprises and Government
must support the Industry Plan strategy of a greater
expansion of Australian grown timber resource and the
subsequent industrial machinery requirements for the
purpose of competition and elimination of timber
imports.
We therefore call upon enterprises and
Governments to:
- Develop timber resources within Australia to compete
with overseas imports;
- To expand Industrial Technology to enable timbers
to be cut to the required sizes;
- That the Federal Government places restrictions
upon the import of dimensioned timbers and only permits
the import of timber species required for resawing
in "flitch' form
- Bring about a level playing field on imports vs
exports.
