UNION ORGANISATION AND NEW INITIATIVES POLICY




This document sets out the Policy of the CFMEU FORESTRY AND FURNISHING PRODUCTS DIVISION on Union Organisation and New Initiatives Policy for the information of all Members, Representatives and Officials.

Included with the Policy is an introduction which provides a background for the reading and application of the Policy.

This Policy is binding on all CFMEU FORESTRY AND FURNISHING AND FORESTRY PRODUCTS DIVISION Members, Representatives and Officials.

Any queries about the Policy should be directed to either the Branch or the National Divisional Office.

1. INTRODUCTION

In line with the rules and objectives of the CFMEU FOREST AND FOREST PRODUCTS DIVISION the Federal Conference calls upon each Branch to ensure:

  • The introduction of structures and procedures to ensure the maximisation and utilisation of labour resources within each Branch and the development of closer relationships between States.
  • The recruitment of new members, the election of work shop representatives and the establishment of active workshop committees.
  • The effective conduct of campaigns around issues of industrial and political importance affecting the working and living conditions of our membership.
  • To ensure that we utilise the various Trade Union education organisations by encouraging members to attend courses on Trade Union education.
  • To conduct a conference of all elected and appointed officials of the Union at least once per year with the intent to bring them up with all current industrial and Political issues confronting or likely to confront the membership.
  • To encourage and facilitate members to take an active role in the decision making processes and ongoing activities of the Union.
  • To actively support the initiative of the amalgamation of Unions particularly within or allied to our industry for the purposes of improving resources and collective negotiating strength.
  • To support the affiliation to National and International organisations to assist in the promotion and development of:

1. The Forest and Furnishing Products Industry;
2. Peace and Disarmament;
3. Health and Safety;
4. Education;
5. Workers Solidarity;
6. Social Welfare.
