NATIONAL DIVISIONAL
POLICY ON PRICE CONTROL
PRICE CONTROL POLICY
This document sets out the Policy of the CFMEU FORESTRY
AND FURNISHING PRODUCTS DIVISION on Price Control for
the information of Members, Representatives and Officials.
This Policy is binding on all CFMEU FORESTRY AND FURNISHING
PRODUCTS DIVISION Members, Representatives and Officials.
Any queries about the Policy should be
directed to the Branch or National Divisional
Office.
The CFMEU FORESTRY AND FURNISHING PRODUCTS DIVISION declares
that it is unacceptable that prices of goods, commodities
and services are set by the wealthy private sector including
international free marketers as witnessed by the recent
increases in mass consumables.
We welcome the recent announcement
by the Federal Government in increasing the powers of
the Price Surveillance Authority to cover household and
industrial products, which include cement and
steel.
We recognise that the responsibility of
adequate price control over all consumer items rests
with the State and Federal Governments however, we are
not satisfied that the Government action goes far enough
and accordingly we call upon the States to surrender
their Price Fixing Powers to the Federal Government with
the Price Surveillance Authority to be given the
necessary powers to see that prices are
controlled.
